Believing God For Every Need

By Dea Hustwaite

Do I just believe in God? Or do I really believe God’s Word? These two questions are very valid and we need to answer them honestly in order to have a loving, trusting relationship with our Heavenly Father. There’s a big difference in believing in God and believing what He says.

“Even the demons believe and tremble.” James 2: 19.

It takes Faith to believe what God says and to believe that He can and will do what He says. Let’s consider Abraham. In Romans 4:20-22. “He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in FAITH, giving glory to God. And being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. And therefore, it was accounted to him for righteousness.” So it can be for us. Our FAITH grows as we study God’s Word, believe it and expect God to keep His word to us.

Recently, in a Sabbath School lesson, I was intrigued by a quote by E.G.White in The Faith I Live By; pg. 8. By reading it carefully, I was able to compile words that describe what God’s Word can do for us in meeting daily temptations and increasing our BELIEF and FAITH. I’d like to share these with you

THE WORD OF GOD IS;
      1. A Weapon Of Divine Power
      2. A Shelter For Us
      3. Our Anchor
      4. Our Counselor
      5. Brings Harmony Into Our Hearts
      6. Reveals God’s Grace and What It Does For Us
      7. Speaks Truth To Us
      8. Our Channel Of Communication With God
      9. It Subdues Sin
      10. It Is Hidden Treasure
      11. Meets Temptation Effectually
      12. A Hedge Against Temptation
      13. It Is Strength and Courage To Us
      14. It Conquers Satan
      15. Promise Of Guardianship Of Angels
      16. Increases Our Faith

“We must be better acquainted with our Bibles. We might close the door to many temptations, if we would commit to memory passages of Scripture. Let us hedge up the way to Satan’s temptations with “It is written.” We shall meet with conflicts to test our FAITH and COURAGE, but they will make us strong if we conquer through the GRACE Jesus is willing to give. BUT WE MUST BELIEVE; WE MUST GRASP THE PROMISES WITHOUT A DOUBT.” The Faith I Live By; p. 8

I pray that realizing what God’s Word can do for us in meeting temptation, challenges we face, strengthening our FAITH, and believing God can and will do what He says will be a blessing to each of you. May the Lord be with us all and help us as we determine to become more familiar with and use His Word every day.
